Jennifer Ehle
Did I mention I love Regency fashion? Jennifer Ehle will always be the only Elizabeth Bennet in my mind. The Greer Garson version was comically bad, and the '05 remake with Keira Knightley was just plain bad.

I've only seen the '95 version - why was the '05 version bad?

Mainly I was unimpressed with the way the text was adapted for the screen. Obviously there had to be a lot of condensing, but the way they did it seemed very dumbed down to me and steeped in cliche. One of the most powerful scenes in the book - Darcy's proposal with that gorgeous line "You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you" - was turned into a melodramatic pronouncement of "I LOVE YOU" in the middle of a thunderstorm. None of which was helped by the fact that they made some pretty poor casting decisions, too (Donald Sutherland attempting to do a British accent? THE PAIN).

To their credit, though, they didn't have anything nearly as ridiculous as the ye olde car chase scene in the 1940 film.

OMG JENNIFER! What is even cooler about this is I'm currently re-watching the 1995 version.

I loathe the 05 version. Whoever thought Keira Knightly is Elizabeth Bennet needs a brain transplant :P I call the 05 version the "evil!coles notes version," I am also convinced it made Jane Austen cry.

I took a lot of those, zomg, for a possible RP journal on LJ. Thank you so much, and I'll credit!

(And I didn't even watch the '05 version because watching Keira chew on her words seemed like too much of a slap in the face to Eliza Bennet, dammit.)

Lizzie!!!!! Funny, really. I'm actually watching the A&E version of Pride and Prejudice right now! Haha. I love Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth way better than Keira and what's his face.
